"Haas didn't play last week so should arrive fresh for a tournament where he is a cumulative 57 under par at for the past two years."

The cruellest of starts last week. After having to finish day one on the 17th tee (due to troublesome weather) with Richard Sterne apparently one shot to the good over Wilson and two clear of Rich Beem, the threeball reappeared the next day with an amended scorecard for Beem, giving him an extra three shots and the lead in the group!

Warren Abery shot a fine 66 first round that was matched by Peter Hedblom so the spoils were shared in the other selected three ball.

This week we have a shortened field event in South Africa, previewed by The Punter here, and a full field event in California, which he has previewed here, to choose from. Due to the nature of both events we are left with only two-balls to get stuck into this week.

I think it's pretty clear by now that the time to get big Brendon De Jonge ([1.83]) onside is before the weekend when he has been know to wilt under the pressure. The South African is an absolute birdie machine, has started the season in fine form and his record here is improving year on year. Back him to get the better of lumpy Tim Herron who has struggled with two missed cuts here on his most recent visits.

At the season opening Tournament of Champions Bill Haas ([1.9]) didn't hole a thing during the first two rounds. So it was lucky for him there wasn't a cut and he improved as the week went on.

Haas didn't play last week so should arrive fresh for a tournament where he is a cumulative 57 under par at for the past two years. He seems to be striking the ball well, but if he's going to continue that kind of form at this event, it's time to start rolling in a few putts. Opponent Brandt Snedeker didn't make the cut here last year, he also missed the end of the 2011 season and this year's season opener after having hip surgery to fix a degenerative issue. Back Bill to come out of the blocks quickest.
