The performance of Schalke's Raul could have a big say in the outcome this week with Salamanroo sweet on the German side and Mark Peters opposing them
"Mark is currently on three wins and just two away from being the first-ever winner of the £100 booty, reserved for anyone winning five editions in a row."
Winner Stays On's most successful contestant ever goes for his fourth win a row. Salamanroo is the man trying to stop him and deny him the £100 booty....
If Mark Peters were a golfer, a tennis player or even a horse he'd be described as being: in-form, in the groove, in the zone or on the money. All appropriate ways to describe the man who is Winner Stays On's most successful contestant in its (admittedly short) history. Mark is currently on three wins and just two away from being the first-ever winner of the £100 booty, reserved for anyone winning five editions in a row.
And it's not like he's been scraping through or relying on his opponents' mishaps. Mark has picked an incredible eight winning bets out of nine, with only one of those coming in at odds-on. We asked Mark how he felt about his incredible run and his chances of keeping his nerve under the growing pressure:
"Confidence is high and has been ever since Man Utd failed to score against Rangers (in week one of the Champions League) handing me victory in my first round. It's like a semi final for me now and nobody likes to lose them only two steps away from the finish line; I'd would love to be the first-ever winner of this fantastic competition but I know it will be tough."
What will he do with his money if he wins?
"Having two young children it should really go on nappies but the gambler in me will probably invest it on Inter Milan to win the Champions League which was my main ante-post pick and at [17.0] makes for a great trade."
There you go then, Mark intends to turn any winnings into further winnings by re-investing his dosh.
This midweek he comes up against Salamanroo in a fixture list made up of two Champions League ties and a big match in the Championship.
FC Basel v Bayern Munich
QPR v Millwall
Schalke v Benfica
As ever, we asked both contestants for their selections and as a one-off, asked Mark to explain them:
Basle v B Munich Over 2.5 goals at [1.85]
I didn't want to give any odds-on selections but I can't have any confidence in Bayern to win away on current form so went for this as Basle have scored 23 goals this season (13 at home) and Bayern should have enough about them to score here. I expect this game to finish 2-1 either way.
Schalke v Benfica - Benfica to win at [3.1]
Very tough game to call. Schalke been struggling this season and Benfica have also started poorly. I make Benfica a 7/4 chance here so at the prices offered, I think they are the value. I believe Schalke will come at them and the game will be set up perfectly for the Portuguese to pick them off on the break.
QPR v Millwall - Half-time draw at [2.38]
QPR are flying at the moment whilst Millwall are in freefall so it looks like a home banker but I'm taking Millwall to hold out at least till half time as I'm sure QPR's bubble will burst soon. With it being a London derby, Millwall should be right up for this with ex-QPR man Jackett in charge.
Salamanroo
FC Basel v Bayern Munich - Munich to be leading at half-time and winning at full-time at [3.5]
QPR v Millwall - QPR to win both halves at [4.2]
Schalke v Benfica - Schalke to be leading at half-time and winning at full-time at [4.2]
