Once the hero of this fantastic competition, Paul Robinson is now a pariah, an outcast. Find out why they've turned on WSO's most sucessful-ever contestant.

Winner Stays On: They've turned on Paul Robinson

A couple of weeks back when Paul Robinson was on the verge of becoming the first-ever winner of Winner Stays On's £100 prize I found my inbox inundated with good luck wishes to pass onto him. "The boy done good" they said. "Four in a row is an incredible effort, I hope he makes it five" they said. Some even claimed he was the best Paul Robinson they knew of. That is surely going a bit too far (I thought at the time) but I actually wanted him to do well myself.

He did famously make it five in a row and win the £100 prize and as per the rules of the game, stayed on to try and win another £100. But now, in a manner reminiscent of the UK tabloids, they've turned on him. The 'good luck' wishes have turned to snorts of derision and suggestions he's ridden his luck far too often and isn't the real deal after all. Someone even claimed they knew a full five Paul Robinsons who were better than him. At most things.

And so my inbox became once again overflowed. Not with the names of well-wishers and fans, but with the names of would-be contestants, gunning for his blood. Desperate to expose him as a lucky tipster, a chancer, someone not worthy of the name Paul Robinson. They'll have their turn of course. But only if Paul Robinson gets past this week's contender, Pete187.

That's no given and should he indeed get knocked out, he will be remembered as the first-ever £100 winner of WSO yes, but also as just one of many Paul Robinsons, not the ultimate one.
