"But these things happen in the wacky world of WSO and that’s why we all love it. Like all good English things, it’s structured and fair. Like queuing or cricket. Well, cricket in the days of the Umpire Decision Review System at least."
Philhudson is the reigning champ in the ever-changing world of WSO. Read on to find out the secret to his success....
I feel for Pete187. I really do. Having knocked out Paul Robinson, WSO's greatest ever player, he then fell at the very next hurdle when up against philhudson. That's like David defeating Goliath with the old cheeky-slingshot-to-the-temple chestnut and then being slain himself by a naughty schoolboy courtesy of a conker to the throat whilst making his way home.
Or like Wayne Mardle in early 2008 who after beating Phil Taylor in an absolute epic at the PDC World Championships then lost in the semi-finals against Kirk Shepherd. Yes, I know. You don't want to be losing to someone called Kirk.
But these things happen in the wacky world of WSO and that's why we all love it. Like all good English things, it's structured and fair. Like queuing or cricket. Well, cricket in the days of the Umpire Decision Review System at least.
This week we caught up with Phil Hudson to ask him how it felt to knock out the man who knocked out the man who knocked out six contestants in a row.
"Yeah, it's all right". he said.
The Arsenal v Chelsea match was of course postponed (both contestants had gone for the draw) so it was the home wins of Fenerbahce and Beira Mar that won the day for philhudson. We wanted to know why he'd gone for those two to win. Was it the system they play that allows them to keep possession for long periods of time whilst negating the opponent's ability to create chances of their own? Was it their mean-as-Ebeneezer-Scrooge-like defences who resort to cynical fouling in a bid to keep the opponent's creative players out, even if it means picking up the odd booking? We demanded to know.
"It's easier to win at home. You don't have to travel on a bus and you've got more fans cheering you on."
So there you go.
In case you haven't heard, it's been quite cold recently. In fact so cold that some girls in Essex have started wearing cardigans on their pre-Festive season nights out. So if any of the matches making up that week's WSO get postponed due to the bad weather, the winner of that week's edition is the contstant with the best record from the remaining match or matches. If in the remaining matches all bets are losing ones for both contestants then both are eliminated as per the original WSO rules.
This week the ever-chatty philhudson goes head-to-head with Sosoildcarew.
This week's matches are:
Everton v Birmingham
Southport v Barrow
Brisbane v Gold Coast
