Drogba's missed penalty was costly to Paul Robinson

The latest instalment of WSO....

There were plenty of people who weren't particularly ecstatic about Didier Drogba's late penalty miss for Chelsea against Spurs on Sunday afternoon. Chelsea fans, those who backed over 2.5 goals on Betfair, Fantasy Football managers who had Drogba as their captain for the week, to name but a few.

Then of course there was Paul Robinson. Officially Winner Stays On's most successful contestant ever and the only man to snap up the much-coveted prize of £100 courtesy of winning for five weeks in a row. He needed anything but a draw to happen in that match in order to win for an incredible seventh week in a row. Here at Betfair Towers we could almost hear the thoughts going through his head in the build-up to the event.

"Right, a pen. Just what I need. Reeeeesult. Come on Lamps, just decide on which side is gong and put your foot through it. Lamps. Lamps? Lamps??!! What's Drogba doing? What's he doing with the ball? You're rubbish mate. No, no, no. You're not. You're great. You're going to score. It's just a penalty. How hard can it be? Hit the target, smash it and we're and home and dry. Damn, he's missed it! You useless *&&^%$$%&**&&*. My reign as king of Winner Stays On is over. And it's your fault"

And so Paul Robinson bit the dust. Another discarded carcass by the WSO wayside. Another light that shone brightly for a while but whose bulb reached it's inevitable end.

The chief benefactor was a certain Pete187, who has been walking the streets wearing the WSO crown ever since telling all who will listen that he dethroned Paul Robinson. He may (or may not) also have sent Drogba a few Christmas cards.

This week he's up against a man who calls himself philhudson. Desperate to know the reasons behind the mysterious moniker we called this week's challenger in order to discover the truth. "That's my name, mate. Phil Hudson" he explained.
