Read about why current WSO champion Dangerous Dave isn't all he's meant to be...
I've done plenty of dangerous things in my time. I've drunk milk that was a couple of days over its sell-by date, I've gone on a night out in Luton and I once backed Niklas Bendtner to be first goalscorer. Ok, the last thing wasn't dangerous as such, it was just downright stupid but you get the gist of it.
So I was delighted when I heard that we had a Winner Stays On contestant who called himself Dangerous Dave. Here was someone I could relate to. Someone I would happily invite out for a couple of beers and in his company, take huge risks. So I called him and we went out for a few.
Scene: Friday night at the local, Dangerous Dave and I are at the bar.
Dangerous Dave: Let's live a little, let's have some strong lager.
Me: Let's push the boat out even more. Let's have some extra strong Stella.
Dangerous Dave: Let's skip dinner altogether and just carry on drinking on an empty stomach.
Me: Ok, no proper meals but let's eat some of these peanuts from this bowl at the bar. God knows how many people have had their dirty paws in these.
And so it went on. We challenged each other to do increasingly dangerous things and as the night went on I increasingly realised this guy was a living-on-the-edge-maverick for whom 'fear' and 'risk' were words he had never bothered to look up in the dictionary. A few more Stellas later I had to ask him.
Me: So....I can see you do plenty of dangerous stuff but how exactly did you get around to being called Dangerous Dave?
Dangerous Dave: Dangerous is my middle name.
I was gobsmacked. Not only was he dangerous by nature, he was Dangerous by name.
But then it happened. As he volunteered to pay for another round (even though in typically reckless fashion it meant he went beyond his overdraft) he opened his wallet and I caught sight of his driving license. His middle name was Sebastian.
I want nothing to do with this charlatan from now on. I feel let down and disappointed. And if you want further evidence that he's not all he says he is, check out his ultra-conservative selections.
