Betfair's top dog sniffs around the truth behind the latest tabloid tales.
· Cruft's champion - Top stories that can dominate the news agenda

· Dog's dinner - Speculation, guesswork, or ideas that just don't come off.
Top Dog says:
Arsenal were truly awesome, Manchester United good - even if a little below their usual high standards. Now it's Chelsea's turn this evening to make it three out of three English clubs into the Champions League last eigtht - before Liverpool look to complete our gang of four next week. If anybody seriously doubted the Premier League is the very best on the planet, Top Dog reckons the debate is now dead!
Cruft's:
Daily Mirror - Perfect - What else sums up Arsenal's extraordinary achievement and display in Italy last night. We say 'keep it tight and bright' in the tabloid industry and this Mirror headline does just that. To see AC Milan played off the San Siro by an English club for the first time was a joy to behold. And we even had a home-grown player in Theo Walcott adding a telling contribution near the end! Arsenal are now a tasty [13.0] to win a Premier League and Champions League double
Daily Star - Fury at Lamps - Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson has launched another tirade at the FA disciplinary system - and rightly so. Yes Frank Lampard's red card at West Ham was a tad harsh and rightly overturned. But, that's unfair, when a week earlier Boro's Jeremie Aliadiere received an extra match suspension after appealing his red-card slap at Liverpool. As a result, he misses Sunday's FA Cup last-eight clash between Boro [1.7] and Cardiff [3.75].
Pedigree Chum:
Daily Express - Grant's heeding disaster warning - The pressure is seriously on Chelsea to deliver against Olympiacos tonight after Arsenal and United reached the Champions League last eight. It seems Blues boss Avram Grant knows it even if he couldn't quite find the correct word yesterday when he told the written press: "I'm sure you will find the right one if we lose." Catastrophe, disaster, dismissed? But Chelsea are [1.8] to beat the Greeks [18.5] at the Bridge .
The Sun - He's Ron a Roll - The Sun's United scribe Neil Custis waxes lyrical, in typically vibrant fashion, about Fergie's Reds in Europe - and how that man Ronaldo produced the goods just when needed against tough French champions Lyon. That's the Portuguese winger's 30th goal of the season - all from his last 30 starts. Talk about machine-gun prolific. Ronaldo is [1.56] to top the Premier charts compared with [4.2] Emmanuel Adebayor.
The Sun - Stick it to Hicks - This a great twist to the Liverpool takeover saga with DIC supremo Sheikh Mohammed demanding the Kop fans turn on Tom Hicks after the American co-owner ko'd the Arab company's £400m bid yesterday. An insider says: "Sheikh is a big Liverpool fan and wants the kudos of owning them - not to make profit." Yeah right! Careful what you wish for Koppites. Liverpool, who play West Ham tonight, are [1.66] to claim a top four spot.
Daily Express: Robinson turns on England - They claim an exclusive on this one, though Top Dog heard it on the radio a few days ago. But it's still a good story of how bitter former England rugby coach Andy Robinson, sacked after 16 months' failure, is helping the Scots plot the downfall of Wilko and co this weekend. He'll be a great help! England are [1.22] to beat the Scots [5.9].
Dog' s dinner:
The Sun - Juve Raid for Lamps - This is tucked away on the inside in the paper's footy fillers section. Which says it all. Reporter Ian McGarry penned it, but the trouble is he's a great pal of Lamps after writing his autobiography in 2006 and would appear to be stirring it up ahead of the player's end-of-season contract talks. Who knows if Juventus' interest is true?
Daily Express - Tevez Pay Deal - Harry Harris can't leave this one alone and he's right not to drop it. But on a night of immeasurable Champions league glory, it doesn't deserve a back page slot. It's no longer an exclusive, with most of the others having the same story about Tevez being owned, controlled and paid by his agent even after the Premier League botched inquiry into the then Hammers striker's contract. Fallen asleep yet?
