The Joker feels he might have been a little tough on football yesterday. It's not so bad, and neither are its fans.

One of the classier elements in the game is Paul Tisdale, the manager of Exeter City. For three seasons now, the Maltese-born cravat-wearer has brought a touch of Mediterranean panache to the English lower leagues. With elegant passing football the Grecians have made two Wembley play-off finals and earned two promotions.

Before the first trip to Wembley in 2007, the Joker's City-mad mate took 100-1 on Tisdale becoming England manager at some stage in his career. No great value there at the time, but now...

Success and good football don't have to be mutually exclusive, then. Someone should tell Tottenham Hotspur, who visit St James's Park this evening. Expect goals.
