Kim Clijsters should wrap up her third US Open crown tonight

"Although I believe Zvonareva will give Clijsters a run for her money the fact is there hasn’t been a final that has gone to three sets since 1995, my best bet therefore will be to back Clijsters to win in straight sets to record her third US Open crown."

Vera Zvonareva has booked her place in a second consecutive Grand Slam final and aims to go one better this time after her Wimbledon dissapointment but she's up against the magnificent Kim Clijsters tonight and more agony is on the cards, says Ben Caudell.

The winner of this match will essentially be the mentally stronger player. Vera Zvonareva, who has shown a lot more self-belief than in the past has gained a lot of confidence and ultimately experience since reaching the Wimbledon final a couple of months ago and is looking extremely fit and agile around the court.

This, allied with the fact that the Russian has won the last two head-to-heads against the decorated Belgian this year, three set wins at Wimbledon and on the hard courts of Montreal, provides us with a good case for backing the 7th seed to record her first Grand Slam win at [3.2] in the match odds. However, without getting to carried away, tonight she is facing a woman who has had a distinguished career at Grand Slam level and is vying for a third US Open title with stats that cannot be ignored. Coming into tonight's late night final, Clijsters has won 17 matches in a row in America, eight of the last nine against Top 10 Players, seven of her last eight when priced as moderate favourite and has amassed 20 wins a row at the US Open.

Despite Zvonareva's two wins over the Belgian this summer, Clijsters enters the match as the favourite and rightly so, seeing as she has won this tournament twice before and has far more experience at this level than her Russian opponent.

Although I believe Zvonareva will give Clijsters a run for her money the fact is there hasn't been a final that has gone to three sets since 1995, my best bet therefore will be to back Clijsters to win in straight sets to record her third US Open crown.

Selection: Back Clijsters 2-0 @ [2.26]
