Andy Roddick isn't the force of yesteryear and can crash out to Julien Benneteau tonight

"The only slight concern is that Roddick’s experience of playing in the unique conditions on Ashe will help him and as a result this could well go long, but Benny’s confidence is at its peak and I take him to prevail."

After a great day's tipping yesterday, Sean Calvert talks us through today's best options, including why the in-form Julien Benneteau can take out home-favourite Andy Roddick.

Saturday at the US Open 2011 was another excellent one for this column, with both of my advised bets and two of the three outsiders that I mentioned winning to earn us a tidy profit.

The Roger Federer v Marin Cilic game went as expected, with the Croat pushing Fed hard for a while and taking a set to bring home our 3-0 Federer lay.

My other bet resulted in a pretty comfortable straight sets win for A-Pavs over Jankovic, and we head into Sunday on the back of some great results in the opening week.

My first bet today has to be to take the [3.3] about Julien Benneteau to take out Andy Roddick, which takes place on Ashe at around 6.30 pm UK time.

Benny has been in the form of his life in the last few weeks and seems to have added a bit of extra pop to his game since returning from a wrist injury.

He showed he could handle the bigger hitters last week in Winston-Salem and here this week he despatched the fearsome ground strokes of Nico Almagro, and in straight sets to boot.

All of that is more than enough to suggest to me that he can handle the 2011 version of Andy Roddick, which is a pale shadow of the A-Rod of old.

The only slight concern is that Roddick's experience of playing in the unique conditions on Ashe will help him and as a result this could well go long, but Benny's confidence is at its peak and I take him to prevail.

The only other big-priced player I feel has a chance on the men's side today is Gilles Simon, who has a shot against Juan Martin Del Potro. And under the lights on the big stage Feliciano Lopez could cause Andy Murray problems for a while too.

In the women's draw I have to be on the side of Sabine Lisicki at [1.9] to take out solid but one-dimensional Vera Zvonareva in the late night match on Ashe tonight.

The German will be looking to erase the memory of her French Open loss to the Russian in which Sabine left the court on a stretcher, after initially dominating, and I expect her to do just that tonight.

Lisicki has been in prime form of late and has dropped serve just the once so far in this year's tournament.

She also benefited from Venus Williams's withdrawal and so she should be fresh for this after a 52 minute stroll in the last round.

Vera's serve, in contrast, was broken five times by Kateryna Bondarenko in round two and she lacks the firepower that Lisicki has at her disposal.

That bottom half of the draw has really opened up and I fancy Lisicki to take full advantage and stake her claim for a final spot by scoring her first career win over Zvonareva.

Recommended bets:

Back Benneteau to beat Roddick at [3.3]
Back Lisicki to beat Zvonareva at [1.9]

You've got to be the worst tipster on the planet, you consistently manage to give awful advice...I hope you've got a good day job!

In fact, if you'd backed each of my selections from 'Five first round upsets' through daily tips up until today (Sept 5) with a tenner on each, you'd be £80 in profit with today's results to come.

That's not to mention the big profit recorded at Wimbledon backing Djokovic outright plus daily tips as well.

    So, not exactly 'consistently awful'.
