Italian bucks the odds to pull off surprise win at Roland Garros

Francesca Schiavone was backed at a high of [320.0] on Betfair's tournament winner market on her way to an upset result at this year's French Open.

The Italian beat Australian Samantha Stosur 6-4, 7-6 in the final today to land the second Grand Slam of the year. Schiavone was backed at a high of [6.2] to win the match and [22.0] to do so in straight sets.

The Australian went into the match as a warm favourite after upsetting first and second seeds Justine Henin and Serena Williams earlier in the week. But Stosur had no answer to Schiavone's tenacity putting in a limp display in the second set tie-break as her dream ended at the last stage.
