Dushevina' s record at Roland Garros isn't great, but it's better than Bondarenko's

"With the knowledge that she can compete with the top players on tour and the fact that Alona has just one win in her career at the French Open, I believe there is value in backing the Russian."

Ben Caudell tells us why Vera Dushevina is the player to side with as she goes up against Alona Bondarenko this afternoon.

Both players have had a mixed bag of fortunes on the clay so far this year, neither player has gone further than the quarter finals of any event and each player have poor records at the French Open.

Dushevina, who is 3-6 at Rolland Garros, has never made it past the second round in six attempts, Alona Bondarenko on the other hand must have one of the worst records of any player in this year's draw. Her past performances read 1-7, her only win back in 2007, a 6-0 6-1 win over Iveta Benesova.

The Russian, who has a 2-1 head to head series lead over Alona Bondarenko has had some decent performances of late. In Charleston, Dushevina took clay court expert Samantha Stosur to three sets and also performed admirably when losing to Serena Williams in a close encounter that went all the way to the wire before losing 7-6 in the third.

With the knowledge that she can compete with the top players on tour and the fact that Alona has just one win in her career at the French Open, I believe there is value in backing the Russian
