The women's draw at this years French Open is one of the toughest to predict, with any number of players equally capable of winning the much coveted title. Henin may be [3.15] favourite but by no means will the winner be a foregone conclusion.
One of the players who has as good a chance as any of reaching the latter rounds of the most gruelling and physically demanding Grand Slam tournaments is Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania. Unlike many top WTA performers who fluctuate between sublime and unpredictably awful, Dulgheru is one player who gives everything she has and sometimes more! No matter what time of day, no matter what standard of tournament, no matter who the opponent is, this grafting Romanian is probably the most consistent and reliable player to back, especially when priced up as the underdog.
Dulgheru is 9-1 on clay, 35-10 over the last 12 months on the dirt and is coming off a tournament win at WTA Warsaw last week where she defeated Jie Zheng in the final. Previous to that tournament win, the Romanian defeated Elena Dementieva in Madrid and Dinara Safina in Rome.
Caroline Wozniacki was seeded no.1 in Warsaw but bowed out to injury against Zheng in the quarters after losing the first set 6-3 and has generally found it tough this year on clay.
The Danish youngster is no.3 in the WTA Tour Rankings but is 5-5 on the red stuff and is yet to make it past two rounds in any tournament since her semi-final showing in Charleston back in April.
With injury worries playing on Wozniacki's mind and a stubborn, formidable clay court opponent across the net, there is definitely reason to get stuck into the [2.8] on offer for a Dulgheru win.
