Long odds backers on women's tennis will be singing the praises of Dinara Safina for the second time in three days after she was matched at [150.0] on Betfair to beat Elena Dementieva in the quarter-finals of the French Open. On Monday afternoon she drifted to [50.0] on Betfair before beating Maria Sharapova, who was matched at Betfair's minimum price of [1.01].
In this afternoon's match, £169 was traded on Safina at odds of [150.0], whilst £170k was matched on Dementieva at [1.02], £606k at [1.03] and £362k at [1.04]. Dementieva was leading 5-2 in the second set and had a match point at 5-4. At this stage Dementieva was matched at a low of 5.2 on the winner market.
Safina fluctuated from a price around the [9.0] mark at the start of the match to [150.0] on the winner market when in trouble. Marat Safin's younger sister is now the third favourite at [4.7] to be crowned champion on Saturday afternoon. Ana Ivanovic is the [2.52] favourite, her semi-final opponent Jankovic is [6.2] and Kuznetsova is [4.2].
