Czech lady is in a good place with her tennis right now and tipster Ben Caudell is hitting form with his tips, so who else is he recommending in today's column?
Yesterday proved to be another fruitful day for this column as we romped home with three successful value bets. My tipping record currently holds at 62.5% success rate at the 2009 Sony Ericsson Open.
Tomas Berdych completed a hat-rick of consecutive wins over James Blake, defeating the home favourite in a close fought three set battle, 6-4 6-7 6-3. We managed to back Tomas Berdych at the start of the match @ [2.2] and lay James Blake 2-0 @ [3.0]. Tomas will now face 2007 champion Novak Djokovic in the last 16, The Serb, who beat Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu in two quick sets, has a 1-0 head-to-head over the Czech.
Our third bet of the day was for Chinese superstar Na Li. She out-played last week's BNP Paribas Open winner, Vera Zvonareva, in a tense affair that included a total of 13 breaks of serve (Li 7, Zvonareva 6). Na Li was a tasty [4.1] at the start of the match and battled through to the next round winning 6-4 3-6 6-2.
The Shock of the day came from the enigmatic Frenchman Gael Monfils, who at 2-5 down in the third set and facing two match points at 3-5 rallied back to claim victory after two hours and 53 minutes against retiring veteran Marat Safin. Over £700,000 was matched on Safin at odds below [1.03].
Today's Selections:
Iveta Benesova (CZE) v Anabel Medina Garrigues (ESP)
Benesova appears to be in that magical place known in sporting circles as 'the zone'. She has punched above her weight at this year's Sony Ericsson Open, beating two promising starlets, Gisela Dulko and Sabine Lisicki in straight sets to reach the last 16 where she will meet Medina Garrigues of Spain. Garrigues was a little lucky in her defeat over Dominika Cibulkova late last night. Tied at 5-5 in the final set, Cibulkova withdrew from the tournament due to cramping. With the momentum that Benesova is experiencing right now and the fact that her overall stats for the last three months are slightly in favour of the Czech, I can see only one winner here...
Selection: Back Iveta Benesova @ [1.9] to win match
Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) v Venus Williams (USA)
I'm going to be brave here as I believe Radwanska has the style of play that can disrupt some of the big hitters on the WTA circuit. She has beaten Venus before, a 6-3 6-0 win in Luxembourg 2006, and is starting to find her form again after a torrid end to 2008. Venus is in exceptional form of late and has recorded a 10-0 win record from her last three tournaments. Venus often starts off a little sluggishly during her early round matches, getting broken early on and then finding her feet, subsequently obliterating her opponents. I therefore for believe that backing Agneiszka Radwanska @ [7.0] or higher is a good value bet in the hope that you will be able to lay it off at a shorter price.
Selection: Back Agnieszka Radwanska @ [7.0] pre-match and then lay the bet off at 4.5 or lower.
