"There's value in backing the underdog Andy Murray at [2.88]."
Andy Murray has been in imperious form this week but his opponent has looked pretty good too. So does Ben Caudell expect the Brit to win his second title of the season on Sunday?
Andy Murray (GBR) v Roger Federer (SWI)
The Shanghai Masters reaches its climax this Sunday with two of the best players in the world battling it out for a $616,500 windfall and 1000 ATP Ranking points.
Both Roger Federer, ranked number three, and Andy Murray, number four, come into this match without dropping a set all week. They have been broken twice each in the first four matches, holding a combined 69 of 73 games and are looking as formidable as ever so we should be in for a real corker.
I believe there's value in backing the underdog Andy Murray at [2.88] in the match odds. He's been in imperious form all week with impressive displays in all four of his matches. As predicted in yesterday's preview, he powered his way into the final with a clinical 6-4 6-1 win over Argentine Juan Monaco and now seeks only his second title of the season. Interestingly, Murray's only title, the Toronto Masters in August, was played against Roger Federer and the Brit was triumphant in straight sets 7-5 7-5.
The conditions here are pretty similar to Toronto according to Federer; he believes this will make this match a very tough and physical encounter, especially seeing as these two tennis greats have played one another on 12 previous occasions. The 23 year-old Scot enjoys testing his ability against the greatest player of all time and in-fact leads the head-to-head series 7-5. All their matches have been played on either indoor or outdoor hard!!
We are all aware of Roger Federer's capabilities and, in defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets, it's understandable that he comes into Sunday's match as the favourite to take home the Shanghai trophy. However, the fact that this is a best of three set match and with Murray seemingly able to raise his game against the former world No. 1, the price on the Brit is slightly inflated. I predict that this match will be won in three sets and it will be second tournament win of 2010 for Murray.
Selection: Back Andy Murray @2.88 to win match
Back Murray 2-1 @ 5.50
