Tsonga will believe he can beat Federer again after his remarkable recovery at Wimbledon
"The big Frenchman has been in fine form this summer since gaining full fitness and his self-belief will be sky high after inflicting Federer’s only ever loss from being sets up, which happened at Wimbledon this year."
The shocks continue over in Montreal and so does Sean's bad run. But that could all change if Jo-Wilfried Tsonga can repeat his spectacular Wimbledon win over Roger Federer tonight.
The pain continued in Montreal yesterday, as the final leg of my multiple went down the tubes after another below par effort from Juan Martin Del Potro, who's eased out to [13.0] for the US Open as a consequence.
But the massive news was to come later when Rafa Nadal lost to Ivan Dodig from a set ahead in one of the biggest shocks in men's tennis in recent memory.
Rafa's loss was a much needed boost for me, as it increases the chances of my longshot Mardy Fish, who cruised through against Feliciano Lopez.
With a full schedule of matches to choose from for once, I'm looking to kick on with a couple of winners today in a tournament that has been a punter's nightmare so far.
This evening's third round matches look tricky, with pretty much all of them looking like they could go either way, but fortune favours the brave so why not back Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to take out Roger Federer?
The big Frenchman has been in fine form this summer since gaining full fitness and his self-belief will be sky high after inflicting Federer's only ever loss from being sets up, which happened at Wimbledon this year.
Tsonga also memorably defeated Fed here in Montreal from 1-5 down in the final set in their 2009 meeting and he could take advantage against a rusty Federer at a handy price of [3.4].
The big man fired down 15 aces in his win over Bernard Tomic yesterday and won 91 percent of first serve points, so he's serving well, which he'll need to do again in the early hours of Friday morning.
The Swiss maestro looked understandably a little off colour against local wild card Pospisil yesterday, with his timing not quite there and he should improve for that match. But will it be enough?
Tsonga has two matches under his belt in Montreal and it's worth a bet that he can catch Fed cold on the big stage that the Frenchman so enjoys.
Others that I like the look of today include Stan Wawrinka over Kevin Anderson, Fish over Ernests Gulbis and Richard Gasquet over Nicolas Almagro but our top tip is to side with big Jo.
Recommended bet:
Back Tsonga to beat Federer at [3.4]
