Fish is on a fantastic run

"Fish loves these Masters 1000 events and has three finals and a semi-final to his name in his career so far. Moreover, he has won nine out of ten matches on US hard-courts this summer."

It's quarter-final day for the gents at the Rogers Cup - Sean Calvert brings us two bets for a big day in Montreal

It was back to form in style yesterday at the Rogers Cup, as Jo-Wilfried Tsonga rewarded those who kept the faith by defeating Roger Federer for a great win at a very nice price of [3.4].

Two of the other three matches that I mentioned resulted in wins as well, with only Richard Gasquet's loss letting us down (where have I heard that before).

Gasquet would have made it a clean sweep but he failed to convert more than two of his 13 break point chances against the Spaniard, who goes on to face Tsonga today.

My tournament longshot, Mardy Fish, is also through and stands every chance of reaching the final now, with only Tomas Berdych, Janko Tipsarevic, and Stan Wawrinka left in his side of the draw to contend with.

And it's these matches that I'm concentrating on today, with an outright win bet recommended for Fish over Wawrinka at around [1.6].

The American loves these Masters 1000 events and has three finals and a semi-final to his name in his career so far. Moreover, he has won nine out of ten matches on US hard-courts this summer.

I didn't buy into the 'heel injury' reason for Fish missing Washington last week. He'd surely just played too much tennis and was giving himself a break for the coming weeks and it might pay dividends.

I've been backing Stan all week and this could be a tight one, but Fish is just that bit more consistent than the Swiss for whom this is his third Masters 1000 quarter-final appearance on hard-courts.

He's been beaten comfortably in all three of those matches though and Fish prevailed in the pair's only career meeting in New Haven in 2007. Expect the American to come through tonight.

The Berdych v Tipsarevic match could be a bit of a nail biter, with Tipsy looking to reach the last four of a Masters 1000 event for the first time.

He reached this stage once before and was thrashed by Nikolay Davydenko in Miami, but he's 2-2 with Berdych on career meetings and the Czech's notoriously brittle confidence isn't at its peak right now.

Tipsy won the pair's last meeting, which was in Davis Cup last year and I can't see either player closing this one out in straight sets, so back the over 23.5 games at around [2.25].
