Get Nadal on side at a juicy price
"Regardless of how well Fish has been playing on the US hard-courts recently and the American's form at this event - he has reached two finals in Cincinnati (2003, 2010) - Nadal has to be backed at this price."
The layers are being far too generous with their Nadal quotes - fill yer boots, says Ben Caudell
Mardy Fish (USA) v Rafael Nadal (SPA)
Very rarely do you see a player of Nadal's pedigree priced at [1.72] in the match odds against a player who isn't Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer. Amazingly, he has even traded at [1.8] to beat Fish.
Regardless of how well Fish has been playing on the US hard-courts recently and the American's form at this event - he has reached two finals in Cincinnati (2003, 2010) - Nadal has to be backed at this price.
There are two reasons why Nadal's odds are so big, firstly He played an epic three set, three tie-break match against fellow compatriot Fernando Verdasco eventually succeeding in 3 hours and 37 minutes. Secondly, Nadal has played with two fingers on his right hand bandaged after he burned them while grabbing a hot plate at a restaurant earlier in the week.
But without a doubt Rafa is one of the fittest players on tour and has had plenty of rest over the last couple of months - the World No.02 has played only three matches since Wimbledon in June - and was knocked out early in Montreal. Fish on the other hand made last week's final in Montreal and two semi-finals previous to this in Los Angeles and Atlanta, therefore should be the player coming into this match the more fatigued...
What really makes the Mallorcan's price stand out is his 6-0 head-to-head series lead over the American that includes two wins on this surface.
Nadal also holds a 10-1 record in 2011 on hard and against big servers (his only loss coming against Jo Wilfried Tsonga) furthermore, the 2010 US Open champion has won five of his last six against players in the top ten and seven of his last eight matches in the United States.
Fish has lost four of his last five matches against top-ten ranked players and four in a row when priced as an Underdog (between [2.0] and [3.0]). Nadal's odds are sure to shorten so get on him now before it's too late...
