Andy Murray has very much the upper hand over Roger Federer with a 6-2 head-to-head record.
"The market-makers on Betfair are finding it hard to choose a favourite for this match but I feel that Andy Murray has recently had the better of the Swiss master and is in slightly better form than the world number one."
The top 4 players in the world are all in the semis in Cincinatti and Ben Caudell turns his attentions to yet another showdown between Andy Murray and Roger Federer where it appears to be another near miss for the Swiss.
Roger Federer (SWI) v Andy Murray (GBR) - The top four players in the 2009 ATP Rankings are in today's semi-finals. It happens to be the first time all top four players have reached this stage this season. The last time this occurred was in April 2008 at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Monte Carlo.
Today signals a decisive match for Andy Murray if he is to be seeded number two at the forthcoming US Open. Murray will go into the Open as the No.2 ranked player if he reaches tomorrow's final. If the Scot loses in the semi-finals to Federer today and Nadal captures the title, the Spaniard will regain his position as the world's second ranked player.
Andy Murray and Roger Federer have become habitual to one another's games on the hard courts. They have played each other no less than eight times within the last four years, surprisingly all eight matches have taken place on either outdoor or indoor hard courts. Murray leads the head-to-head series 6-2 and has won on the last four occasions, all four in three sets.
The 22-year old defending Champion Andy Murray enters the semi-finals for the second year in a row with a 12-3 mark. He captured his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title in 2008, defeating Djokovic in two tie-break sets. He also defeated Roger Federer here three years ago in the second round before losing to Andy Roddick in the quarter Finals. The market makers on Betfair are finding it hard to choose a favourite for this match but I feel that Andy Murray has recently had the better of the Swiss master and is in slightly better form than the world number one. You can never ignore the fact that Murray is leading the head-to-head by a considerable margin; I suspect a three setter is on the cards once again with Murray the eventual winner.
