You have to feel for the election candidates. For months on end every word they utter is intensely scrutinized and in turn, they are often ridiculed and mocked by the unforgiving masses.
In keeping with that, here are some of the more amusing quotes which have emerged throughout this fascinating campaign.

"You may have noticed that some people have been saying a lot of nasty things about Western Pennsylvania...And I couldn't agree more" - John McCain really knows how to endear himself to a Western Pennsylvanian crowd.

"John McCain has spent more time in a Vietnamese Prisoner of War Camp, then Barack Obama has in the Senate" - Arnold Schwarzenegger gives his two cents.

"The issue of Economics is not something I have understood as well as I should" - John McCain hammers a nail into his own coffin

"The Fundamentals of our economy are still strong" - McCain looks to prove his above point

"There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women." - Sarah Palin tiptoes around another issue.

"All of them, any of them....all the ones that are on my desk" -A remarkably well read Sarah Palin struggles when asked which newspapers and magazines she reads

"Let me make this clear, Israel is a strong friend of Israel and always will be in an Obama administration" - Barack Obama reassures Israelis

"On this memorial day, as our nation honours its unbroken line of fallen heroes , many of whom I see in the audience today, our sense of patriotism is particularly strong" - Obama terrifies a confused crowd.

"Don't you know that Sarah Palin is the Governor of Alaska, that's right next to Russia" - John McCains answer to a reporter questioning the Foreign Policy credentials of his running mate.

"We have work to do, particularly on the Iraq-Pakistan border." - Geography was never McCain's strong point.

"John McCain has spent the last week calling me a socialist for proposing necessary tax cuts. Next thing you know, he'll be calling me a Communist for sharing my toys in Kindergarten" - Obama in a rare moment of genuine humour.

"You may be aware that in that last week Barack Obama spent millions of dollars on advertisements on several National TV Stations - we on the other hand could only afford QVC" - John McCain sees the funny side of his inept fundraising abilities.

"I am indeed a true maverick - A Republican without money" - To many it was the factor that cost him the election, to John McCain it was just funny.
