Fabien Dunlop tops the Day 1b chip counts at WSOPE Event 1

Another eventful day at the World Series of Poker Europe saw a more recognisable list of names heading into Day 2 of the £1000 NLHE event. Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Padraig Parkinson, John Juanda and Jeff Lisandro all survived a frantic day of play in London yesterday but it wasn't to be for Betfair Poker's Annette Obrestad.

None of the big names could live with Fabien Dunlop, though. Dunlop topped the Day 1b chip counts with an impressive 64,000 chips. Even that big stack is some way behind the overall tournament chip leader JP Kelly. Kelly's stack was totalled up to 99,000, way more than the original 65,000 from early reports.

The day wasn't without some big name eliminations. Betfair Poker's Annette Obrestad had a tough start to the 2009 WSOPE and was quickly on the rail with the likes of Andy Black, Simon Trumper, Dave Colclough and, the man many were tipping to go deep in this event, Phil Ivey.

At one stage the eliminations from the 313 strong field read like a who's who of world and European poker with Barny Boatman, Liv Boeree, James Akenhead and Allen Cunningham all taking an early bath. However, such is the quality of this event, we're still left with an exciting line up for Day 2 later today.

The top ten players and their chip counts from Day 1b are:

Fabien Dunlop - 64000
Stephane Hansen - 42000
Nicolas Levi - 40000
Chris Ferguson - 33500
Ganesh Bathmanathan - 30000
Azzy Azghar - 24000
Tim Blake - 23500
David Stockings - 23000
Markus Golser - 23000
Carsten Girst - 22000

80 players return for Day 2 at 2pm UK time and it's likely to be a cagey affair with the bubble on the horizon. 63 players will walk away with at least £2006.

£136,803 and a coveted WSOPE bracelet will await the winner on Monday. Stay with us for the latest news from the WSOPE here at Betfair.
