Everyone likes getting comments on their poker blog, right? - otherwise people would just turn off their comments option. Right?

So here are are three quick tips for getting more comments.

1) Allow comments from everybody

Comment spam used to be a problem but it is slowly being eradicated. The introduction of Captcha ( the funny numbers and letter test) has cut down automated spam hugely. Allowing comments from only Google Account holders seriously reduces the amount of people who comment. Go into Setting - Comments once there you will see Who Can Comment? check the box that says Anyone - includes Anonymous Users.

You will get the occasional rogue or unwanted comment. These can be easily and quickly deleted. By not allowing comments from everyone you are cutting down on the amount of people who will leave a message. Remember not everyone wants to be identified, not everyone has a Google Account or blog and not everyone who wants to leave an anonymous comment is some malevolent spammer.

2) Make use of Bloggers new Comment Form Placement option

Previously, a person wanting to comment was sent to a separate page or pop up box to leave a comment but now a handy little text area will appear under every post if you have checked the box marked Embedded below post. You will see it when you click into Settings and then Comments as above. This feature makes commenting easier. Not only do they not have to leave the page but can also comment better as they can refer to your post much more easily.

3) Moderate comments only from older posts

Most comments on a post will arrive within the days after it has been written. If you check the box in Comment Moderation that says Only on posts older than you have control on which posts to have comment moderation. It is set by default to 14 days but you can change it to a time length you are happy with.

This is a good feature because any comments added after the date you decide, will not be published but rather you will be sent an email with the contents of the comment for you to publish or reject. I like this feature as most comment spammers tend to target old posts in the hope you don't notice them. Enabling this feature will give you total control of previous posts.

Well, Poker Bonus...you are technically spam but you left an erudite comment so fair play.

If you want to get referrals to your site then you need to put in more work.

When visiting a blog leave an intelligent comment that shows you have read the blog post and adds to the conversation then most people will publish your thoughts.

One liners will normally, and should be, deleted by blog owners but put in a bit of effort in your 'spamming' and you will get rewarded in the long run.
