Most people believed Annette Obrestad was a male when she first started playing online poker the WSOPE champion has revealed in a recent interview.
The Norwegian professional famously started playing at the age of 15 but suggested that plenty of her opponents refused to recognise the fact. "Most people thought I was a boy," said Annette on a recent Poker Road Podcast. "Nobody ever believed I was a girl before I came out and told everybody when I turned 18."
In the interview Annette also talks about how she never deposited money into a poker account, chats about her blind tournament win when she beat 180 players without looking at her hole cards, while revealing she has staked four "horses" in the WSOP Main Event.
"I have backed a few players but I'm not going to mention names unless they do really well."
After turning down another marriage proposal live on air, the Betfair Pro kept the dream alive for many young male poker players when she revealed: "I don't have a boyfriend, I don't have time for a boyfriend.
"If I were to have a boyfriend though, he would have to be a poker player!"
Anyone interested in more poker radio may want to check out the podcasts at Raise A River the popular UK Forum. Annette's interview from above can be found here (around the 33 minute mark for the impatient).
