On Friday I went to Paul Scholes' testimonial match for Man United versus the New York Cosmos at Old Trafford, which was one of the perks of taking part in the GSOP Live event that Betfair Poker had a bunch of players in.
We were all put inside one of the beautiful executive boxes to watch the match and it was a really good game. It was great that Paul Scholes was able to score the first goal, and it was a cracking goal too. Man United finished up winning six-nil, maybe because I was wearing their full kit throughout the match! One thing I didn't realise was that Eric Cantona is the manager of New York Cosmos so it was pretty cool that he was at the ground.
The tournament itself was a really good tournament and was actually played inside Old Trafford. The first day everyone was in one of the convention rooms but the next day play was actually in one of the boxes overlooking the field whilst they were playing, obviously I didn't make it that far but more on that in a future blog. I was really hoping that a Brit would take it down but congratulations to Jens Kerper of Germany who grabbed the trophy and the $81,175 winner's prize.
Overall the trip was really fun, Manchester had a much better nightlife than I had imagines, some really nice restaurants and a couple of cool parties. With it being the GSOP there were some cash games running, which I donated to and helped to keep the Manchester economy buoyant! The tournament was cool and I'll definitely be playing in some more. There is one coming up that is in Greece and then Prague and I think the final is in the Dominican Republic, which will be cool and of course you can qualify for some excellent packages on Betfair Poker!
