"Don't be afraid to gamble."

So says Daniel Negreanu, who has a vested interest in you gambling because without your cash the gaming industry in which he makes his living would have no money to pay him.

The Poker Anorak also wants you to gamble. And if possible we want you to lose, not too much, but just enough to cover our expenses and for a final payment on a new black Ferrari.

Reading on, we discover that Negreanu is talking about how to build up a decent stack.
The Poker Anorak's top tips include: inheriting lot of money; securing credit; being sponsored by a wealthy angel; writing a hit song.

If any of the above fails - and they might - try Plan B: working for it.

Negreanu advises pushing small edges before the flop by playing coin flip situations, like a pair versus two overcards, or vice versa. This requires something called "luck", and brings us back to that wealthy aunt and "gambling.

Negreanu also advocates playing more hands in smaller pots. The more you gamble, the more chance you have of winning.

Imagine you're at a busy table. The antes and blinds are in, and you raise before the flop on every hand. One other player also has to play loose, and does.

The other players are tight and enter the pot only about 10 per cent of the time. Says Negreanu: "Furthermore, assume that when only you and the other crazy player are in the pot, neither of you will bet after the flop, turn or river. Theoretically, each of you should win half of the pots. However, when any tight player enters the pot, you would each play your normal game, playing hands that have value and betting as you normally would."

Nice idea. And I you are in cahoots with the other aggressive player, it might work well. Such is the way of theories.

Now, anyone got the number for Aunty Irene..?
