WHAT do we want?
We want poker.
When do we want it?
Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
Give me a P...
Well, no. Shan't. The Poker Anorak might be in America, but we should not go native. We only need to say that natives are getting restless.
The big news is that the Washington DC-based Poker Players' Alliance is all set to announce that membership has passed the one million mark.
To show our support to legalised online poker in the US, the Poker Anorak has signed up. Our membership number is 79*7*57. One imagines there are not in excess of seven millions members and our number is not reflective of the cause.
Indeed, joining up requires no money and no authentication. You just type in a name, an email address, a postal address and click "submit". Congratulations you are now a member.
What chance the million members are not all individuals?
But so what for the details? Just admire the length of the list. And listen to the news.
"Reaching one million members puts the PPA on par with such political powerhouses as AARP [American Association of Retired Persons] and the National Association of Realtors [a million estate agents?!] , and will allow us to advocate even more effectively on behalf of our members," says PPA Chairman Former Senator Alfonse D'Amato.
And there is more.
The PPA has brought about a "If You Play, Have a Say" campaign, the aim of which is top encourage PPA members to sing up and vote for poker in their US state this November.
PPA members can go online to www.poker2008.org to complete a simple online form in order to register to vote in their state.
This year's World Series of Poker in Las Vegas during July will provide a focal point for the Alliance. The PPA plans to have representatives at the event, signing up members and registering voters.
"The formation of PokerPAC and the 'If You Play, Have a Say' campaign sends a clear message to elected officials in Congress and the state capitals that poker players are paying attention to the laws they enact that impact an individual's right to play poker. Our one million members' voices will be heard," said D'Amato.
Or not...
Ya-boo! You can play poker online in the free world...
