A 4-2 lead means that the Australians have earned the right to take their foot off the gas in the final match of the series.
Back India to beat Australia @ 1.7 in the 7th ODI
Lay John Higgins to beat Judd Trump @ 2.0
Back Rochdale to beat Luton @ 1.7
Treble pays @ 5.7
Australia in unassailable position, Higgins and Trump can share the spoils and Rochdale have the mental edge. Jaymes Monte picks out his three midweek selections for his weekly treble....
Bet 1: Cricket - India v Australia, 7th ODI
A patched up Australian side wrapped up the series in convincing style in Guwahati on Sunday with a six wicket triumph. The series victory was a glowing example of the strength of Australian cricket at present, beating India on home soil is one thing but to do it without many key players is quite another.
The unassailable 4-2 lead means that the final match of the series in Mumbai is effectively a dead rubber affair. A situation which I don't think will be favourable to the Australians in terms of this one off match.
Ricky Ponting has made numerous comments over the last two weeks about the heavy schedule which he and his compatriots have had to endure recently. And now that the job is done in India I think they will be tempted, and can be forgiven for, taking this one easy.
For that reason I am going to side with the Indian's here as they try to restore some pride to their proud cricketing nation.
Selection: Back India to beat Australia @ [1.7] in the 7th ODI
Bet 2: Snooker - Premier League
Two rounds of fixtures to go in this year's Premier League and only Marco Fu cannot make it to finals weekend. Three points separate the other six players and just one separates the top five.
It means that there are a couple of very interesting matches on show this Thursday evening as John Higgins takes on Ronnie O'Sullivans conqueror Judd Trump, and Neil Robertson faces Shaun Murphy. Both Robertson and Murphy must win if they are to continue harbouring any hopes of winning the 2009 Premier League, but it's the other match where both Higgins and Trump can almost secure a semi-final berth with a draw which has my interest.
In beating O'Sullivan last week Judd Trump looked to be the one with a string of major titles to his name, completely unfazed by the prospect of playing one of the world's greatest ever players he powered into a 4-1 lead and took maximum points.
Up against another three time world champion this week I'm going to keep on the right side of the youngster. However, with the draw being a favourable outcome for both players I'm also going to keep that on side and my selection is to lay John Higgins at around the even money mark.
Selection: Lay John Higgins to beat Judd Trump @ [2.0]
Bet 3: Football - F.A. Cup
The world's oldest association football tournament is upon us once again as the old time honoured traditions continue to battle against the mega bucks of a football world that was inconceivable back in 1871 when the competition first began.
There was a big shock on the cards on Saturday as non-league Luton took a three goal lead inside the first 30 minutes of their home tie against high flying Rochdale. But a second half comeback was completed with two goals in the last three minutes as The Dale forced the tie into a replay.
There is little time for either side to dwell on what might have been as the replay comes around in double quick time. Wednesday night's rerun will provide a rare opportunity for both sets of players to perform in front of the ITV cameras, and although they had a narrow escape on Saturday I am looking to side with the League Two outfit.
To lose a three goal lead in such a fashion will have been a devastating mental blow for the Luton Town players, and I think that this game will come too quick for those scars to have healed sufficiently. Rochdale have the mental and physical edge and at [1.7] I'm taking them to complete my treble this week.
Selection: Back Rochdale to beat Luton @ [1.7]
