A competitive card at Wolverhampton this afternoon makes for a tricky placepot.

"Frequency hasn’t always been the most straightforward, but he’s struck up a good relationship with Eddie Ahern when easily winning a seller and claimer within twenty-four hours for Amy Weaver earlier in the month"

Our Valentine's Day placepot comes from Wolverhampton...

14:10 - Both selections in the tightly-knit opener are hold-up performers, so hopefully the pace will be strong enough to show them both to best effect. Steel City Boy has returned from a slump with a couple of placed efforts the last twice and he'll be staying on again at the finish this time, too, whilst Cheveyo, who's quirky, should put his best foot forward with Jamie Spencer on board for the first time.

14:40 - Frequency hasn't always been the most straightforward, but he's struck up a good relationship with Eddie Ahern when easily winning a seller and claimer within twenty-four hours for Amy Weaver earlier in the month, and it's hard to see him out the placings if in anything like the same form this afternoon.

15:10 - Sweet Origin is well connected and makes appeal on paper, but he didn't actually achieve much in form terms when well behind Point Out in a maiden here last summer, so it's perhaps wise to take him on with the only other pair who have a chance of winning, Norse Dame and Minsky Mine, both of whom have achieved a similar standard.

15:40 - At first glance, not much separates the field in our fourth leg, but there is every chance that School For Scandal will, like so many of Mark Johnston's three-year-olds, improve for the longer trip and switch to handicapping, so he's banker material.

16:10 - Many of these come into this at their peak, so it's a particularly competitive handicap for the grade, but The Lock Master is on a hat-trick and a 3 lb rise for his narrow success the time before shouldn't prevent him at least making the three, while Elijah Pepper's strong finish eleven days ago suggests he's well worth a try at this trip.

16:40 - A tricky conditions race to finish off with, and it's not easy to rule out the rapidly progressive Norman Orpen, who hasn't yet looked to have reached his limit, but he's up against it in this company and Suits Me, who is a listed winner, may well get his own way in front and prove tough to pass.
