David Pipe: Saddles Horsford at Ffos Las

"...an earlier second to the progressive Mic's Delight off a mark of 114 over hurdles suggests Horsford isn't handicapped out of things.."

A selection from each of the three meetings and it would be apt if David Pipe's Horsford was to do the business in Wales on St David's Day..

Irish point winner Tim The Chair (15.00) looks most interesting on his handicap debut at Leicester and could oblige for Emma Lavelle. Quietly progressive over hurdles, it's interesting to see the six-year-old quickly switched to fences by his shrewd connections, and he leaves the impression of having plenty of improvement to come.

Rosewood Lad (15.10) has been expensive to follow, but is unexposed at two miles, and after another good run last time could be the one to side with in the staying handicap at Lingfield. The step up in trip sparked improvement in the four-year-old as he scored readily at Wolverhampton last month and then found only the thriving Mush Mir too good at Southwell a week later. Cathy Gannon, who rides Lingfield better than many, has built up a solid partnership with Stan Moore's gelding, and can steer him home to victory again.

None of the quintet can be ruled out in the fifth race at Ffos Las but Horsford (16.30) doesn't have many chasing miles on the clock and could be worth chancing for the in-form David Pipe. He did well in his first season, winning a bumper and novice hurdle, and looked in need of the experience faced with a stiff test over the Wincanton fences on his chase debut in January. It would be no surprise to see Horsford do better over these easier obstacles today, and an earlier second to the progressive Mic's Delight off a mark of 114 over hurdles suggests he isn't handicapped out of things.
