"Night In Milan took a similar race at Southwell in good style a month ago and finished like a train from miles back at Sedgefield a week later.."
A colleague of mine nominates Tuesday as his favourite day of the week owing to a certain pizza chain's 'buy one get one free' offer on this day. "I'm off for twenty slices of cheesy heaven," he announces as he leaves Timeform House each Tuesday evening. Here's hoping these three selections can pay for tonight's meaty marvels..
If it's 'two for Tuesday' then it also must be Southwell and Hermes (14.20) is fancied to get off the mark in the maiden over a mile. He shaped really well on his debut at Windsor in October when pulling clear with Escholido, who had some solid form in the book, and seems certain to step up on that effort. Ralph Beckett has a 23% strike rate at Southwell and the few horses he has kept on the go this winter have paid their way, the yard having had five winners from just twenty runners in Britain since the turf season ended.
Two hours later there Jay Jays Joy (16.20) is worth a bet in the seven-furlong handicap for three-year-olds. This will be just his sixth start and the form of his third here last month has worked out really well, Finn's Rainbow, Rylee Mooch, and Mini Bon Bon all winning next time. David Barron has his string in tremendous form and their excellent record at this track continues.
Conditions are likely to be testing up at Newcastle where Night In Milan (16.40) can get back to winning ways in the last. Keith Reveley's charge took a similar race at Southwell in good style a month ago and finished like a train from miles back at Sedgefield a week later. Night In Milan has gone up just 3 lb in the weights after that and should have too much in hand for the in-form Too Cool To Fool from the Jim Goldie yard.
