Paul Hanagan made a successful return to action at Wolverhampton yesterday and the reigning champion jockey can strike with his only ride at Southwell this afternoon in City Stable (16.10). Hanagan was on board City Stable the last time the six-year-old was successful, in a similar handicap at the track last July, and has dropped to an attractive mark, some 3 lb lower than for that victory. He's lightly raced on fibresand and a couple of poor efforts recently should be overlooked.

Calusa Shadow (16.30) goes in cheekpieces for the first time in the three-mile handicap hurdle for conditionals at Ludlow and makes a fair bit of appeal at [7.0]. Twice in the frame in bumpers, Calusa Shadow is really starting to motor over hurdles, shaping particularly well at Exeter on New Year's Day. It would be no surprise to see him improve that little bit more in headgear and get off the mark today under Giles Hawkins.

The thriving John Potts (19.10) can gain a fifth course win at Wolverhampton this evening. Brian Baugh's charge notched up a four-timer over 8.6f at the track at the turn of the year and returned to form with a bang over today's trip when chasing home a revitalised Strong Vigilance ten days ago. In a race that lacks strength in depth tonight he makes plenty of appeal.
