"Now don't be sad, 'cause two out of three ain't bad," sang Meatloaf in the 1975 hit of the same name. We're anything but sad after Nikos Extra and Sweet Origin gave us our third double in as many days yesterday and the good run can hopefully continue today.

The penultimate race at Southwell is one of the most desperate that I've previewed for the Free Form Site in a long time but it looks to offer one of the day's best bets in Saulty Max (16.45). The thirteen-runner field can easily be whittled down to just a few obvious contenders, and despite not having looked the greatest of jumpers so far, the unexposed Saulty Max tops the shortlist. She ran into handicap blot Molly Round at Taunton before falling 3 out when favourite and looking the likely winner at Plumpton last time. The Southwell fences are hardly the softest, but given the limitations of her rivals, it will be disappointing if Saulty Max can't get off the mark today.

Coincidentally the second selection, Strongbows Legend (15.15) at Chepstow, also fell at Plumpton last time. He was going best of all under his inexperienced rider when coming to grief 4 out at the Sussex track last month, and his earlier form, particularly his third to Mostly Bob at Doncaster, is strong. Still unexposed after just four runs over fences and with Andrew Tinkler back in the saddle today, Strongbows Legend can gain compensation.

Tislaam (20.10) can gain this third win at Kempton this evening. Alan McCabe's grey arrives in good form having scored easily over six furlongs at the track before meeting trouble in a warm Lingfield handicap won by Qadar ten days later. Tislaam has been gelded since then, so there's a chance he could improve further, and the return to seven furlongs won't pose any problems.
