"If Halcon Genelardais retains anything like the ability he showed when chasing home Kauto Star and Imperial Commander in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on his return last season he will be very hard to beat.."

Hunter chase season begins at Wincanton today and the Timeform Free Form Website think the £937 first prize can go to an old favourite of Alan King's..

Halcon Genelardais (16.20) is the class act in the sixteen-runner contest and makes plenty of appeal at a current price of [4.8]. The eleven-year-old hasn't won since 2006 when he landed the Welsh National and looked in decline last season, but his record fresh is a big positive, and if he retains anything like the ability he showed when chasing home Kauto Star and Imperial Commander in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on his return last season he will be very hard to beat. Ornais easily poses the biggest threat. A Grand National entry, he was one of the leading novice chasers in 2007/8, and is another with an excellent record first time up.

Conditions will be testing at Towcester and that will play to the strengths of Fredo (16.10) who can get off the mark over fences at the fifth time of asking. Ian Williams' charge has finished runner-up on all four of his starts in novice chases this season, chasing home the ill-fated Tell Massini, Master of the Hall, Hidden Keel, and Alvarado. There's nothing wrong with his attitude, merely he's just been unfortunate to run into some equally-promising chasers each time, and today's stiffer test could see him come into his own.

Wolverhampton holds happy memories for Hayley Turner as it is was there she became the first lady jockey to ride one hundred winners in a year in 2008. 2011 has begun brightly for the Nottinghamshire-born jockey and Imperial Fong (18.30) can give her a fifth winner in eleven rides at the track in the three-year-olds' mile handicap. Imperial Fong has been brought along in typically patient fashion by David Elsworth and shaped well under Hayley on her return from a break at Lingfield last month. The step up to a mile will suit on her handicap debut.

Recommendations

Back Fredo @ [2.28] Towcester 16.10
Back Halcon Genelardais @ [4.8] Wincanton 16.20
Back Imperial Fong @ [6.0] Wolverhampton 18.30
