"Topolski picked up readily in the straight to see off Lifestyle and Megastar, the latter of whom finished fifth in the Neptune on Wednesday.."
Spring is in the air and there will be plenty of eyes on today's opening Flat turf meeting at The Curragh. There are two jumps meetings to get stuck into in Britain as well and these three selections are well worth a nibble.
Topolski (14.15) can follow-up his promising hurdling debut at Sandown in the opener at Newton Abbot. A useful stayer on the Flat for Andrew Balding, the five-year-old jumped well on his first run for David Arbuthnot last month, travelling smoothly to lead after 2 out and picking up readily in the straight to see off Lifestyle and Megastar, the latter of whom finished fifth in the Neptune on Wednesday. Shammick Boy looks the big danger seeking a hat-trick, but a double penalty could be enough to thwart him.
Decent Lord (16.00) can get back to winning ways at Carlisle. A three-time winner in handicap hurdles in February, Decent Lord lost nothing in defeat when his successful run came to an end at Huntingdon last time, coming from last to first to challenge before his effort petered out, a fourth run in eleven days perhaps finding him out in the end. He's had a break since then, and is almost certainly still ahead of his new mark of 91.
Back at Newton Abbot and Insignia (16.45) has to be given another chance after his unlucky departure at Taunton last month. The eight-year-old was well backed on that occasion and was still in with every chance when coming to grief 2 out, showing much more than he had done for a while. Clearly well handicapped, even after a 3 lb rise for that, Insignia can make a winning start for Victor Dartnall.
