All bets at Wolverhampton this afternoon.
"Straboe makes plenty of appeal at the current price of [4.7]. Stuart Williams’ runner has a good win record (5-20) and has looked better than ever of late."
Last week's Cheltenham Festival has exposed the limitations in my National Hunt knowledge, although, judging by the so-called experts, one winner over the four day's action isn't a bad return by any means, even if it is selected by the 'McCoy's due a winner theory'. Hopefully, though, we'll get at the very least one winner this afternoon back on the Flat...
The Jeremy Noseda-trained Baharat took three attempts to get off the mark in maiden company, showing varying degrees of greenness, and quirks, along the way. It's almost certain, given these traits, that he's got plenty more ability to reveal now handicapping and it's worth siding with him on handicap debut this afternoon as he's potentially on a very lenient opening mark. He was more straightforward in the visor the time before and if the headgear continues to have the same effect he looks value at [3.7], especially with this longer trip looking likely to suit.
David Barron's Elijah Pepper still looks well treated after a good run of form and has an excellent course record, winning twice and only finishing out the frame once in seven starts, so he looks sure to run a big race in the handicap at 16.20. His main danger looks to be the lightly-raced Gracious Melange, but she's got an absence to overcome and would have to be right on her game to defy Graham Gibbons another winner.
The final race on Wolverhampton's card is a sprint handicap featuring a pretty exposed bunch and, as such, Straboe makes plenty of appeal at the current price of [4.7]. Stuart Williams' runner has a good win record (5-20) and has looked better than ever of late, especially considering nothing much went his way here last time, missing the break and doing as well to get as close as he did in the end. The rest of the field are a limited bunch, but with Spic 'N Span one of several trailblazers in the field there's sure to be plenty of pace on and things should be set up ideally for the fast-finishing Straboe.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Back Baharat @ [3.7] Wolverhampton 15.50
Back Elijah Pepper @ [3.0] Wolverhampton 16.20
Back Straboe @ [4.7] Wolverhampton 17.20
