Two winners and a non-runner made for a good Sunday in the end, particularly But Beautiful who salvaged the weekend for some of us here in Halifax, and hopefully today's selections will prove at least as profitable...

The Ian Williams-trained Cotillion sets a clear standard in Hereford's second race and makes plenty of appeal at the current odds of [3.1]. He was beaten in second when unseating his rider last time, but he'd travelled strongly for a long way prior to that, shaping as if the drop back to this trip won't inconvenience him, particularly given the heavy ground will firmly place the emphasis on stamina, and he's a confident selection to get off the mark in a contest which lacks depth.

Erinjay hasn't stood much racing so far in his career, but he's won four of his nine starts, two of them readily in plating company this year, and he looks to face another very winnable opportunity here. With Scary Movie a non-runner, his main rival looks to be the tough but limited I Confess, and Erinjay should prove too classy for that one in the finish.

Six o'clock is a bit late for the day's finale, at least on a Monday, anyway, given it's one of six designated 'pub nights' (we are in the curry house for Friday's session) for the heartbeat of the 1-2-3 team. In fact there's a good chance the result of this will remain unknown until first thing Tuesday, that is unless we've got loads running on to it in a tasty treble or, more likely, we're desperately chasing. It's actually a race which is pretty competitive for the grade, though, with several of these coming into this in good form, none more so than Piccolo Express, who didn't travel as well as he can last time but still went close from this mark, so at [5.2], he may well prove worth waiting for.
