I'm guilty as the next man of following losing horses off a cliff but I really do think River d'Or (16.05) needs persevering with and he's worth an interest on his chasing debut at Newbury. Formerly trained in France and now in the care of Paul Nicholls in the Clive Smith colours, River d'Or finished down the field in two competitive handicap hurdles last February, notably the subject of a gamble on the second occasion at Kempton. He's reportedly had a breathing operation since last seen and the step up in trip today should suit.

There's a fair chance Balerina has more to come kept to two miles and she could prove too good for today's rivals, led by the free-going Dream Esteem, and Veiled, having her first run for Nicky Henderson today but who wasn't fluent in two runs over hurdles in December 2009 despite winning on the first of them.

Eastern Gift (16.55) has dropped to a tempting mark and could take advantage this afternoon at Lingfield. He lost nothing in defeat when going down by a short head to the improving But Beautiful at Kempton last time, confirming himself in good heart, and he has some good efforts to his name at Lingfield over the years, his record at the track reading 4223.
