Today's best best is at Wolverhampton this evening

"...it’s probably not unrealistic to say that Serious Drinking would have won last time had she not been left with so much to do, and compensation surely awaits this evening"

Two jumpers at Bangor and one on the all-weather at Wolverhampton for Friday...

In a low-key sort of way, the three-mile novices' handicap hurdle at Bangor (14:25) is one of the day's more interesting races, with several of the runners having the potential to prove some way ahead of their respective marks. The Henderson-trained Morcambe and Mighty Man's relative Kingsmere are two who fit that profile, but one at a slightly bigger price who has pretensions to improve now is Gunna Be A Devil for Jeremy Scott. Gunna Be A Devil shaped with degrees of promise in his three runs in novice hurdles, but never really got the chance to prove his opening mark a workable one on handicap debut at Wincanton last month, when set plenty to do in a race run at just a modest pace. Today's step up to three miles is going to suit Gunna Be A Devil, and at the prices he's worth an interest tried in a tongue tie for the first time.

Form figures of 97790 this season hardly inspire confidence as to Dashing George's chance in the three-mile handicap chase later on at Bangor (16:05), but they don't really reflect the way he's been running in the face of some unsuitable tests. Dashing George ran in the Welsh National last time, and didn't shape all that badly prior to finding his stamina stretched. The handicapper looks to have taken a real chance in dropping Dashing George 12 lb on the back of that run, particularly bearing in mind what he was capable of in Ireland in the not-too-distant past. Even a repeat of the form he showed when seventh in this year's Grand Sefton at Aintree will likely see him involved today, given how far he's come down in the handicap since.

Resuscitator beat Serious Drinking by a length and three quarters in a handicap over a mile at Lingfield last month, and they reoppose in the 18:30 at Wolverhampton this evening, where there are compelling reasons to believe that Serious Drinking will get the better of her rival this time. The race at Lingfield favoured those ridden prominently, and Serious Drinking was the only one to make any impact from off the pace. Indeed, it's probably not unrealistic to say that Serious Drinking would have won had she not been left with so much to do, and compensation surely awaits this evening tried in first-time eyeshields from just a 1 lb higher mark.
