The Free Form team think they've found a couple of bets over jumps at Ludlow today
"We think the improving Catbells should be favourite for this [15:35 Lingfield], everything seemingly set for her to put up a bold show."
Ludlow race for the first time since November, and the Timeform Free Form team have come up with two selections there, supported by one from Lingfield.
This is surely one of Ludlow's better cards, with the Henley Hall Gold Cup (a mares hurdle held at 15:25) the first of two useful handicaps scheduled to take place today. That race unsurprisingly looks fairly competitive, but we suspect that Lady Bling Bling may have snuck in under the radar somewhat and makes appeal at decent odds. A course-and-distance winner from a 4 lb lower mark last spring, Peter Jones' mare showed that she's returned in good form when finishing runner-up in a novice at Wincanton on her chasing debut, splitting a couple of fairly useful sorts in Forget It and Carrickboy. Possibly best when she's relatively fresh, Lady Bling Bling is potentially as well handicapped as any if her last run is read positively and as such we think she's overpriced as things stand.
Thirty-five minutes later, eleven are due to line up for the Attwood Memorial Trophy Handicap Chase over two and a half miles. Shadow Dancer is potentially well treated and would command respect if the money came, but we can't legislate for that and as things stand Peplum looks a more solid proposition at the prices. It was a rather unexpected return to form for Peplum when he won at Newbury last time (Betfair SP 140!), but there was no fluke about it, especially when you look back at his hurdling form. As such, a 9 lb rise is far from prohibitive and this longer trip than at Newbury should suit Peplum better.
Last, but by no means least, we travel to Lingfield and their ten-furlong handicap at 15:35. We think the improving Catbells should be favourite for this, everything seemingly set for her to put up a bold show. A winner at Wolverhampton on her penultimate start, Catbells again shaped well when fifth at Kempton six days later, getting no luck in running and finishing with plenty more to give. Just 1 lb higher now and therefore already one of the best handicapped in the race, we expect Catbells to improve again and if so she would clearly go close. A further positive is the booking of the more-experienced Liam Jones to ride, Natasha Eaton having partnered Catbells in recent runs.
