Phil Spink says: Back Randjo @ 3.2 in the 15.40 at Leicester
"Randjo looks capable of defying a 13 lb rise with the prospect of more improvement to come over fences.."
It seems everyone and their dog were on Night In Milan yesterday, even this morning I was stopped by a bloke on the train platform exclaiming "what a night in milan that was". Imagine my embarrassment as I went off on one about the horse doing well to prevail in such testing conditions when he remarked 'that Gattuso should be banned,". Now that awful introduction is out of the way, here's three selections for Wednesday's action.
Despite Halcon Genelardais being a somewhat unfortunate loser for this column recently I'm prepared to give another hunter chase a chance and Battlecry (15.10) looks just the type to make his presence felt in the grade at Leicester this afternoon. He lost his way under Rules, but burst back into life under Willie Twiston-Davies when running away with a point to point last month. Turko, rated 10 lb superior to the selection at his best over fences, also makes his debut in a hunter chase, but could only manage a third place between the flags 44 days ago, and was very easy to back at time of writing.
Victor Dartnall is having a fine season and his Randjo (15.40) is fancied to follow-up his easy Fontwell win at Leicester. A mistake at the last when clear was the only negative to be taken from the six-year-old's impressive twenty-length success last month, and he looks capable of defying a 13 lb rise with the prospect of more improvement to come over fences.
At Lingfield, First Rock (16.00) can make amends for his odds-on flop at Southwell last month. A dual bumper winner, First Rock was sent off at [1.47] when going down to Sail Home, but he again travelled strongly and there are more races to be won with him, with the step back up in trip today likely to see him in a better light. The biggest danger looks to be Momkinzain who ran to a figure of 86 in a warm Newbury maiden on debut last spring, but a subsequent run in the Great Voltigeur when finishing tailed off appears to have soured him judged by the way he hung in two subsequent runs in the autumn. He returns from four months off today for a yard without a winner since November 1st.
