Paul Nicholls has a good chance of an across-the-card double at Doncaster and Newbury.
"We can hopefully help ourselves to a quick double with Rangitoto in the novice hurdle at Newbury, as this looks to be a great opportunity to confirm the immense potential he showed at Ffos Las on his hurdling debut."
All eyes will be on Grand National fancies Ballabriggs and Niche Market on Saturday, but we turn our attention away from the big races for three other horses with strong form claims.
The first of today's best bets has to be Paul Nicholls' Vertige Dore in the novice hurdle over two miles and three furlongs at Doncaster (15:50). Seemingly finding the polytrack surface against him when second to Chain of Command in a bumpers' jumper in December, he had previously shown good speed when winning his only start over hurdles at Bangor, looking the type to continue to improve. There's no reason why he shouldn't add to that win in what doesn't look the greatest of races, for all that Drive Time and Brother Bob have ability.
We can hopefully help ourselves to a quick double with the same trainer's Rangitoto in the novice hurdle (16:10) at Newbury, as this looks to be a great opportunity to confirm the immense potential he showed at Ffos Las on his hurdling debut . Going strongly before a possible lack of fitness told close home, he looks a certain improver and this former Irish point winner can take this before going on to better things.
The final race at Doncaster is seemingly a competitive handicap, but one in which Silk Drum holds strong claims after unseating at the last at Warwick on only his third start over fences last time. That performance would have been his best effort yet, despite a winning chase debut and a second in between, so it may be that Silk Drum is still well-treated in what will only be his second handicap chase start. Back on good ground, he has a solid chance of accounting for Pret A Thou and I'm Delilah.
