"Stablemates Volcanic Ash, New Latin, and Aloneinthestreet have all shown substantial improvement when switched to fibresand this winter and it would be no surprise to see Colebrooke go the same way.."
Three horses to be on this Friday courtesy of the Timeform Free Form Website.
Today marks the twenty-first anniversary of Mike Tyson's sensational first defeat at the hands of James Buster Douglas. A 42/1 shot in Vegas on the day, Douglas would no doubt have been 100s+ on Betfair had the exchange been around then, while those that piled onto Iron Mike at [1.03] would have been left crying into their Harp Lager. Rather than trying to find the one Buster Douglas-style upset today I've gone for the safe approach of three fairly short-priced selections that can hopefully pack a punch.
The reliable Patsy Finnegan (14.05) can keep Alan King's fine run going at Kempton. A big improver over hurdles in 2008/9, Patsy Finnegan wasn't given a hard time when chasing home a good prospect in Mr Gardner on his debut over fences at Huntingdon last month, jumping safely on the whole and shaping as if the run was needed after twenty-two months off. There's a fair chance he'll offer a good deal more with that run behind him and with doubts over main market rivals American Trilogy and Zazamix he makes plenty of appeal at [3.0].
Colebrooke (16.35) is a confident selection in the last at Southwell. Representing the in-form Mark Johnston, who took this race twelve months ago with a similar sort in Demonstrative, Colebrooke was placed off a mark of 72 in a nursery at Goodwood last October and has been gelded since last seen. Stablemates Volcanic Ash, New Latin, and Aloneinthestreet have all shown substantial improvement when switched to fibresand this winter and it would be no surprise to see Colebrooke go the same way and take this handicap from three exposed rivals.
Dart (18.40) can win again at Wolverhampton. The seven-year-old missed the board when the subject of a punt at Southwell on New Year's Day, but bounced back to take a similar contest over course and distance in the style of one who can go in again. She's not been with John Mackie long and has a solid record at Wolverhampton, the form figures of her runs at Dunstall Park reading 263121. Camps Bay looks the biggest danger to the selection but is a frustrating horse, finding one too good on his last five starts.
