"The seven furlong maiden features a clutch of unraced horses, who could easily prove above average, but they will need to be if they are to beat Fog Cutter."

After the massive Jackpot was won at Exeter yesterday, today's placepot might seem like it's not even worth winning, but Timeform's Adam Brookes nonetheless brings you a suggested perm for the card at Lingfield.

14:10 - A very tight staying handicap to begin, but a race in which we can expect Where's Susie to be placed at the very least. A close third to subsequent winner Sir Boss is good form for the grade and showed she is capable of winning a race such as this. She's usually most reliable so must be the first name on the list for a race in which some of the fancied horses don't have the most convincing profiles. The consistent Soundbyte is another to consider.

14:40 - What may look a tricky handicap at first glance, actually features a number of disappointing horses, and it can pay to side with Evey P, who is still very much unexposed after only four starts. Evey P came in for good support on her handicap debut last time and showed promise, coming home well after finding herself in a poor position, and should run well again. Breezed Well is interesting but hasn't run since July, so the strong-finishing Fine Ruler is included as insurance.

15:10 - Stoneacre Gareth has won two races impressively since emerging from an almost three-year absence, and is surely going to run well again. At this lowly level it is going to take another well-handicapped horse to beat him and the only one who fits the bill is Spinning Ridge, who came out of the doldrums last time and has claims once more.

15:40 - The seven-furlong maiden features a clutch of unraced horses, who could easily prove above average, but they will need to be if they are to beat Fog Cutter. He ran well on his debut, running freely before staying on into second behind the well-regarded Baharat, and can be expected to improve upon that effort. The step back in trip should suit Fog Cutter and, should such progress be forthcoming, he will take a lot of beating in this company.

16:10 - A competitive sprint handicap handicap it may be, but including the consistent Steel City Boy and Black Baccara will give us the best chance of progressing to the final leg. In a race in which none of the runners appear both well-handicapped and in form, the aforementioned pair are at least reliable in the grade and are sure to give their running.

16:40 - We end with the minefield that is a claiming race for older horses. Thankfully, for once it appears that there is a standout contender to carry the burden of our money and it's Grande Caiman after his encouraging sixth in a better race on his return from a three-month absence. The only ride of the day for northern-based Silvestre de Sousa, he should go well and can account for Beauchamp Xiara and Suntrap.

Selections:
14:10 - 2, 7
14:40 - 6, 8
15:10 - 1, 2
15:40 - 4
16:10 - 1, 5
16:40 - 5
