Today's Placepot selections come from Wincanton

"Silver Kate has looked a progressive novice chaser this season and a reproduction of her last two runs should see her take this comfortably."

Wincanton is the destination of our Placepot advice today, with Timeform's Phil Thompson making the selections

14:00 - Only the six runners to get us started and, given that it's the first leg, we will play it cautiously and select two. Laneguy won a novice event at Taunton easily last time out, travelling strongly throughout. The Tom George team are back amongst the winners at present and he has a great chance of making the first two here. January is a fair chaser on his day and this sharp two miles should suit. He's back down to the mark from which he finished second to In The Zone in September, and it's worth taking the chance that a break has refreshed him.

14:30 - A competitive handicap hurdle and again we will take two against the field. Robin Will is first up, having seemingly been brought along with handicaps in mind. We will also go for the unexposed Rayon Vert, who travelled well for a long way last time in a novice event here and is open to progress now taking in handicaps.

15:00 - Silver Kate has looked a progressive novice chaser this season and a reproduction of her last two runs should see her take this comfortably. However, yours truly has come unstuck in the dreaded four runner race more than once and the quicker ground may not suit. Dover's Hill is fully effective on any ground, and a reproduction of his Ascot run should see him thereabouts.

15:35 - Novice handicap chases are never races to go overboard with but we find ourselves now needing to keep the lines down so we will gamble and go all in with Midnight Appeal. He stepped up markedly in a handicap chase at Huntingdon last time, jumping soundly and idling in front, and an 8 lb rise should not stop him being competitive over this slightly longer trip.

16:05 -Few of the big field can be fancied and, with four places up for grabs, we will take a chance on banking on Miss Miracle. A winner on the Flat, she has yet to transfer that ability to hurdling but today could be the day, back on less testing ground and put in cheekpieces (won in them on flat).

16:40 - We finish with a puzzling maiden hurdle. Management has been quite consistent despite not getting his head in front and may not need to improve on his recent runs to be competitive here. Water Garden has disappointed on both starts over hurdles in testing conditions. However, he has been running against some useful sorts and it would be no surprise to see him get involved here under Timmy Murphy now dropped back in distance and faced with quicker ground.

Selections:

14:00 - 4, 5
14:30 - 2, 8
15:00 - 1, 3
15:35 - 4
16:05 - 14
16:40 - 4, 8
