Venetia Williams: Looks set for a good day at Taunton

"... the one that stands out is Tenor Nivernais, who went with loads of promise when third at Wincanton on British/handicap debut just over a week ago."

It's off to the West Country for the first placepot of the month...

13:50 - There isn't a single one in this that you could describe as solid, so it's going to have to be the scattergun approach to get things started. The pin has landed on Lansdowne Princess (has assistance of one of the better riders/not appallingly treated on pick of hurdles form), Normally (not devoid of ability judged on admittedly ancient novice form/yard can bring one back from lengthy absence) and Karinga Dream (stable form). Bearing in mind that two of those have nothing in the way of recent form, it's worth sticking in A Fistful of Euros too, her recent third at Huntingdon probably worth little in the grand scheme of things, but at least signifying that she's in reasonable heart.

14:40 - Keki Buku and Ranjobaie currently head the market for this, and they're both worth taking to see us through leg two, the former having shaped with a deal of promise on his chasing debut at Warwick last time and the latter likely to appreciate this return to a right-handed track.

14:50 - Secret World sets the standard judged on his debut second at Newbury, but he already looks a bare stayer over jumps, and Shammick Bay could well run the finish out of him, just like he did to Credit Swap over C&D under two weeks ago. There isn't obviously a great deal to worry about among the remainder, so Shammick Bay looks a decent opportunity to save some lines and bank.

15:20 - One More Dinar is a sketchy jumper and unshipped his rider again when sent off favourite at Leicester last time. The time before that, however, he showed that this sort of mark is just about within his compass when second to a progressive one at Bangor under today's rider. He isn't one to be banking on, so we'll also take Mamba. She was a beaten favourite last time, too, and it could be that she needs a longer break between her races, but is worth chancing all the same in the hope that first-time cheekpieces can help her travel with a bit more purpose than is often the case.

15:50 - This handicap hurdle is a much better race than you'd normally expect to find on a Tuesday afternoon. It certainly looks competitive, but even then, the one that stands out is Tenor Nivernais, who went with loads of promise when third at Wincanton on British/handicap debut just over a week ago. There aren't many you can rule out among the remainder either, but of them, My Shamwari perhaps catches the eye the most, appealing as the type to do better on just his second start for Philip Hobbs.

16:20 - Guns of Love and Kirbys Glen are both in form (closely matched on recent Huntingdon running) and representing small yards enjoying good times of it in the main this season, so together they should be enough to see us through leg six in the event that we get this far.
