"..it's unlikely they'll be able to handle Jay Jays Joy who finished third in what's proved a very strong race at this track in January and is bound to improve for this longer trip"
Looks like there'll be a small payout at Southwell today, so just the sixteen lines are required.
13:50 - Plenty of unreliable sorts in the opener, so not many solid ones to choose from but Angle of Attack, who can be excused his latest run, held his form on this surface last winter and Archilini has made an eye-catching stable move. If either of those two returns to anything like their best they'll definitely make the three.
14:20 - Hermes made a promising start behind Escholido at Windsor back in the Autumn and would definitely make the first three with a reproduction of that effort. However, there's no guarantee he'll take to this unique surface at the first time of asking, so Mark Johnston's Barnum, whose U.S. pedigree suggests he'll take well to fibresand, acts as a bit of insurance.
14:50 - No doubt about a banker in the third leg, though. El Dececy might have the best recent form in the seller, but he hasn't really fired the last twice and Army of Stars can almost always be relied upon to give his running, so he's the only one we need on side.
15:20 - Over half of the seven runners in the mile handicap have questions to answer in one way or another. Follow The Flag was laboured last time, Exit Smiling ended 2010 out of form and Trans Sonic made very hard work of what should have been a simple task in a claimer last time. Bawaardi, who ran particularly well in a good race at Kempton last time, and Sweet Child of Mine, a tough sort with an excellent record at the track, stand out from the others and are the obvious pair to have on side.
15:50 - In the stayers race, Mush Mir does deserve plenty of respect, but three runs within a week is a big ask, so he's opposed at such a short price with Calculating and Stadium of Light, the latter unexposed at two miles having seemed slow throughout his career.
16:20 - Finally, it's another banker to see us home. Ace Master and Ridgeway Hawk give the race a competitive look, but it's unlikely they'll be able to handle Jay Jays Joy who finished third in what's proved a very strong race at this track in January and is bound to improve for this longer trip.
