Lingfield is the venue for today's placepot
"Flynn’s Boy confirmed the promise of his debut when winning at Southwell, and now has to transfer his ability to polytrack, but he looks one to follow and has every chance of running well."
After a successful day at Taunton yesterday, here's hoping we can translate our good form to Lingfield, where another winnable opportunity has presented itself.
14:00 - Not the easiest of starts, and a race in which many will be siding with favourite Titan Diamond, but whilst he does look to hold sound claims on form, he could just have to give way to a couple of less exposed horses, one of which may be Govenor General, who is going to appreciate this step back up in trip. Spirit of Oakdale gets the chance to prove himself well handicapped after his return over an inadequate six furlongs and is also open to improvement.
14:35 - A toss of the coin, but as we can't afford to take chances so early on, we'll include both heads and tails. The tough and dependable I Confess is going to make the running and, in such a small field, will be able to dictate his own fractions before kicking off the bend, so has to be included. The only other horse with the ability to catch him is Aflaam, who finds this selling grade much easier to handle these days, and loves this course and distance.
15:10 - A maiden race for those aged three and over and an impossible race to be confident about, with Bestwecan a complete unknown and all the rest having questions to answer. Yet, it seems folly to exclude Jacobs Son, as whilst he's spurned chances to win in finishing second on his last five starts, he's clearly reliable.
15:45 - A competitive seven-furlong handicap to sift our way through now, but one in which The Happy Hammer stands out, after his three runs this season. It may not have been impressive, but he had subsequent winner Chief Exec back in third when winning over a mile at this course last time, and his consistency makes him a 'Placepotter's' dream. With lines saved on the previous race, it's worth including another selection in what does look a tricky affair, and Buxton should again run well after his back-to-form second last time.
16:20 - The seven furlong handicap for three-year-olds looks an intriguing event, with four last-time-out winners heading the betting. The likely favourite National Hope was impressive when winning on debut, and is certainly going to appreciate the step up in trip, but she faces stiff competition in the form of Flynn's Boy and Romantic Wish. Flynn's Boy confirmed the promise of his debut when winning at Southwell, and now has to transfer his ability to polytrack, but he looks one to follow and has every chance of running well. Romantic Wish is having her first start of the year, but won her only nursery over course and distance and also looks worthy of consideration.
16:55 - The final leg, and a typical all-weather handicap, full of exposed horses. Consistency has to be top of our priorities here, and this points us in the direction of Eastern Gift, who stumbled badly after clipping heels on his penultimate start, but stayed on well to be just touched off by But Beautiful last time. If he gives his running again, he has a solid chance of running into the places.
