Today's placepot attempt is at Bangor
Barrie Burn is also of interest. He’s seemingly been brought along with handicaps in mind and should be suited by today’s stiffer test of stamina.
Timeform's newest recruit, Phil Thompson, has a crack at the Bangor placepot....
14.20 - Seven go to post for this mares Novices' Hurdle over two miles and a furlong, in which Empress Orchid looks to have a good opportunity to complete her hat trick. Although carrying a double penalty in soft ground, this front-running mare has already shown she handles testing conditions really well, travelling strongly for her two wins. Bellaboosh, a hurdling debutante from the in-form Nicky Henderson yard and with the champion jockey in the saddle, is also expected to be in the mix.
14:50 - With only a handful of runners, Copsehill Girl is a confident selection. Already a winner over hurdles (beat Rith Bob six lengths), she will be suited by three miles, acts on testing ground and is open to further progress under these conditions.
15:20 - With only five runners, we're playing for just two places. Antoella can be considered 'placepot material', as she had two of today's rivals (Miereveld and Baraathan) behind when making a successful handicap debut last time and should go close here despite a 9lb rise. Plus Ultra receives weight from all his rivals and could benefit from the switch to handicaps having come up against some useful sorts in his previous two outings.
15:50 - A competitive handicap, but we need to keep lines down so we'll gamble and take just one. Drill Sergeant was progressing well over hurdles early on and looks to have been found a good opportunity here considering he was a short price when brought down in a hotter race at Ascot last time out. If consenting to show his full ability today, then he looks likely to make the two.
16:20 - Another seven-runner Handicap Hurdle here. Kauto the Roc is a fairly useful hurdler on his day as shown by his two wins in November. He was still travelling well when departing at Warwick in January and was not knocked about when sixth last time out at Huntingdon. Barrie Burn is also of interest. He's seemingly been brought along with handicaps in mind and should be suited by today's stiffer test of stamina.
16:50 - Jimmy The Saint is by no means an original selection, but he made a good impression when winning at Towcester last time and looked likely to improve from the experience. Non Dom is the only realistic danger, but we'll stick with Jimmy The Saint.
