The second leg of the Triple Crown takes place on Saturday in what promises to be the race of the season. Rachel Alexander, who won the Kentucky Oaks by over 20-lengths in brilliant fashion, has been supplemented for the race and lines up against the colts. Nick Shiambouros profiles the runners...
Big Drama missed the Kentucky Derby due to an injury but this speed favouring track will suit his running style. He is not without a chance
Mine That Bird caused a major upset when winning the Kentucky Derby easily. I am not sure this track will suit him but he will be running on at the end.
Musket Man was my Kentucky Derby selection and he finished third at a decent price. This shorter trip will suit him.
Luv Gov has little chance here.
Friesan Fire was very disappointing in the Derby but he is talented and has a chance.
Terrain finished fourth in the Blue Grass and has a bit to find
Papa Clem finished fourth in the Derby and is not without a chance.
General Quarters won the Blue Grass but only finished 10th in the Derby and has a bit to prove now.
Pioneer of The Nile looked like the winner of the Derby two furlongs from home but finished second to Mine That Bird. He has a big chance in this race.
Flying Pirate is not for me
Take The Points is a lightly raced colt with room for improvement but this is a huge ask.
Tone It Down - pass
Rachel Alexander demolished the opposition in the Kentucky Oaks and was subsequently sold to Jess Jackson for an undisclosed sum. She is a superstar and I will be backing her on Saturday but this is not easy. I think she will win because she has tactical speed and a blistering turn of foot.
Selections:
1-Rachel Alexander 2- Pioneer of The Nile 3-Big Drama
